Overcoming Stress and Unlocking Potential: A Coaching Success Story

By Ninette Abi Atallah

As a psychology-based coach, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals unlock their full potential and transform their lives. One of my clients came to me overwhelmed by stress, struggling with daily challenges that affected many aspects of their lives. They knew they needed change but weren’t sure how to achieve it. Through personalized coaching sessions and powerful mindset shifts, we worked together to overcome these challenges. This case study highlights the journey from stress and uncertainty to confidence, clarity, and success, showcasing the impact of my coaching approach.

When Leila (name changed for privacy) first reached out to me, she was in a difficult place. As a first-time mother, she was constantly stressed, doubting her life choices, and questioning her ability to raise her son properly. The weight of these challenges affected her daily life, leaving her feeling overwhelmed and stuck. She knew she needed support but wasn’t sure where to start. That’s when she turned to coaching for guidance.

To address Leila’s challenges, I created a safe and supportive space where she could openly express her concerns and goals. My approach focused on helping her reduce stress and rebuild her self-confidence. Together, we set specific goals and worked through four key areas:

  1. Stress Management: We assessed her current situation and the physiological factors contributing to her stress, such as her sleep habits, diet, and physical activity. We incorporated stress-relief techniques to help her calm her mind and reduce anxiety. The methods were simple yet effective, and Leila noticed a decrease in her stress levels after our first session.
  2. Identity Work and Releasing Past Traumas: To help Leila manage her anxiety, I used Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT). This allowed her to release repressed emotions and recognize how certain coping behaviors she had developed were no longer serving her. Understanding and releasing these emotions helped her feel more in control of her life.
  3. Communication and Boundaries: Leila had difficulty accepting help and often felt frustrated when others didn’t offer assistance without her asking. She believed they “should simply know.” I guided her through understanding the importance of setting boundaries and communicating her needs effectively. She began using “I” statements to assertively communicate and set healthy boundaries.
  4. Financial Trauma: Leila had been experiencing low blood sugar on several occasions. Upon exploration, we discovered a psychological connection to a financial trauma she had witnessed during her infancy, which had deeply impacted her. By understanding this connection, she was able to address her financial anxiety and make better choices moving forward. Her anxiety decreased, and she began to clearly set future goals and pursue them with confidence.

Throughout the coaching process, I provided Leila with continuous support and access to the tools she needed to better understand boundaries and how to communicate them effectively. By the end of our sessions, she had not only regained control over her stress but had also developed a more positive and empowered outlook on her career and personal life.

Before our sessions, Leila was detached from her emotions. She wore a wide smile, while inside, her soul was aching to cry. Gradually, she became more honest about how she truly felt. She made peace with her emotions and learned to release them. She realized that she didn’t have to be perfect and could forgive herself for making mistakes and learn from them. This led her to become more compassionate toward herself and more secure in her own skin. She overcame her fear of driving and passed her driving exam, she began to celebrate her small wins and had a more positive view of life.

Leila accomplished her goals and gained a renewed sense of self-confidence. When I asked her for feedback, she provided a detailed list of all the areas we had addressed during our sessions.

“Thank you Ninette, I just noticed how much I changed since the beginning of our work together. You helped me overcome my fear of driving, my anxiety decreased. You helped me communicate better with my husband and know that I don’t have to be perfect to be loved.”

Leila

Leila’s dissatisfaction and stress were deeply rooted in her past, which I’ve chosen not to elaborate on to protect her privacy. However, our focus was on helping her develop new ways of coping with life’s stresses, regulating her nervous system, and learning the skills necessary to communicate and set healthy boundaries.

We can never live a “perfect” life without negative emotions. Our emotions are there to serve us, and once we begin to understand them, we make peace with fear and sadness, letting them go so we can experience life as it truly is.
